May 2008 - Pledge
On 3 february 2008, one of our employees, Cinda Nsele, passed away after a short illness, leaving behind her 11 year old daughter, Nokubonga.
We at Makakatana have been overcome with this tragedy and just felt so helpless. We see so many children who have been left to aunts and other family members, many of whom have their own siblings to care for and many have no income. They cannot all survive on government grants or pensions.
It is heart wrenching and I cannot turn a blind eye to this knowing that I am in a privileged position to do something about it. I am privileged in that I have access to so many wonderful people from all over the world who often ask what they can do to help.
There are not enough charities in the Mtubatuba region and I can no longer pass those of you who want to help, onto charities in other provinces when Kwa-Zulu Natal needs so much help!!
Many guests ask me what charities they can support, and many ask how they can help. Some donate clothes, educational items or sports equipment, others are happy to donate money.
So I find myself now in a position where I am now asking for help for these children.
Although for us, it starts with this little girl, Nokubonga, I know that we will end up helping many more. Besides the charities and children I support in my own capacity, it is not enough. So much more is needed to help so many children without parents.
I cannot do this on my own.
At the moment this charity has no name! I am dealing with it one day at a time and take this step by step. Should the support grow, I will then take the next necessary steps to formally start a Children’s Foundation. In the interim, I assure you that I stand behind this with all my heart.
This is the humble beginning and I would be grateful to all who are able to make a donation, for now towards Nokubonga. I am grateful for your compassion and generosity.
I cannot think of tomorrow as much is need to be done today! I do not know what lies ahead and am inexperienced in this field. My inexperience is no excuse to wait another day! However, I am experienced enough to do something to help! So I now wholeheartedly ask for your support and thank you in anticipation.
Thank you and kind regards,
Leigh-Ann Morrison
